Never ending story...

This last topic will be shorter but I hope that it will be interesting. I would like to ask you about scenarios and plot in TV shows.

There are many tv shows like “Prison Break” where there was just one season planned but when it suddenly became a great money maker someone decided to go on and now we have 4th,5th or even 11th season.

There are many similar tv shows where first season or two are great and next few are just… let’s just say they aren’t as good as first two.

I have nothing against that “24” would have for example 20 seasons :) but that is just because it is my favourite show. On the other hand I wouldn’t like it to have many seasons with boring plot just because everything was already used and there are no more ideas…

There are also tv shows like “The Bold and the Beautiful”… as far as I know this show is aired since 23rd march 1987.. on Monday it will be 22 years.

So what are your opinions? Would you like to have just one season but every minute of every episode would be fantastic or maybe you would rather have few more seasons with a bit more stretched plot… or maybe you like shows like “The Bold and the Beautiful” mentioned above where plot is a never ending story?

  1. In my opinion there is no difference in seasons count. When you enjoy the plot, and next episode is interesting so you watch it and you don't care about which episode it is. Of course everything depends on how last episode is finished, and if all quests has been explained. If your curiosity is contented in last episode you feel this is the end, and you are happy that you saw such interesting movie. But if something last unexplained you are interested what is next and then you wait for next season.

  2. I think it is very difficult for screenwriters to make a season where every episode will be interesting and with . To connect interesting plots sometimes they must write one or two introductory episodes. Seasons have generally 13 do 16 episodes max. The last ones are the best because they preparing viewers for new plots in new season. I prefer TV show with several seasons like The Sopranos or Six Feat Under.

  3. I dont watch TV very often, especially tv shows. I preffer audiobooks instead :) they dont torment our eyes and you can hear to them even on the way to work.

When i was younger i used to watch Knight Rider. I know that there is a whole new season of it now but after watching few episodes it seemed to me kinda 'viperish' if you know what i mean ;] And i liked the oldschool pontiac far more than mustang used in new series.

As for plot, i think that there shouldn`t be a limit for number of episodes when there stll are some fresh new ideas.

  4. In my opinion: "Quality not quantity!".
But I don't have nothing against a large amount of episodes.
I also watched Knight Rider, and I also didn't like "Viper" :). Besides: "not the same voice, not the same car, no original Michael Knight" :).

  5. I think we could specify two scenarios,
when the producers signed for e.g. two seasons of some tv show (and they are actually good and enjoyable to watch) but when the show grow in popularity and then they started to think up new episodes it often goes one way... down.
You just have to know when to stop.
and the second case is when it's really working out, like the whole Lost series ;-)

  7. My best tv show is polish "Pitbull". It has unfortunately only 4 seasons and the best was 1st and 4th. So, your opinion that only firts two are good is wrong :)

American TV Shows is totally not for me and o i don't watch them so i can't tell anything about it.

  8. For me the number of episodes/seasons is not of main importance. What matters instead is their quality rather than quantity. By quality I mean an intriguing and surprising plot. At least some sense of humor is what I expect from the producers of any film series.

  9. I think that every serial should have limited number of episodes. Otherwise it’s not interesting anymore and we watch it because we used to.. Do you know that German broadcast of “bold and beauty” stopped in 2008, and also in the same year in the USA was the lowest level of watching it. That’s why I hope that it will finish soon ;)

  10. My favourites tv-series are Lost, Prison Break, Battlestar Galactica, Jericho etc.. :D I could write much more.. In better times I watch one episode for a day:) Now I only download them from a web.. they are waiting for end of school.. But I have to say that for me for example Prison is still good series and I am not too happy that I have already downloaded last episode of the last series.. 5th if I remember.. But, however, plot is an essence..

  11. I like sometimes watch some soap opera when I have time, e.g. in the weekend, but I usually can't stand for what happen next, so I watch the hole 'season' in one day ;]
